Pay “Paw” It Forward Day

April 29, 2010 Paw It Forward Day – Holidays are seemingly losing some of their meaning these days.  Some of our most sacred celebrations have degenerated into commercialized celebrations of materialism, manipulation, greed and hype.

It really isn’t pretty, yet we know it’s true in so many cases.  People are getting a little tired of it and as result we have started to create “new holidays” like Pay It Forward Day.  It’s the perfect chance to reverse some of the cultural damage, to be positive, to do something to help instead of senselessly consuming.  It’s the opportunity to celebrate true goodness.

Pay it Forward Day is based on the book “Pay It Forward”, a story about a boy who did three good deeds for others in need.  In return, all he wanted was that they pass on the good deed to three other people and keep the cycle going.

One good deed might not seem like much, but if everyone did something good for someone else, then the cycle of generosity and kindness can spark us to become better people.  Pay It Forward Day may be one of the only holidays that “keeps it real,” that focuses on what holidays should focus on; doing good, thinking good thoughts, and bringing someone else a little joy.

Paw It Forward Surf Dog RicochetAs a dog owner the idea of “unconditional” is a concept that gets displayed regularly and why the day has also become “Paw it Forward Day” as well.  Surf Dog Ricochet of San Diego has spent the last year doing good deeds for people and has become the Ambassador for “Paw” it Forward Day.

Pay It Forward Day is a great reminder of the positive impact we can make in the lives of others, or people we have never met.  Dogs are great role models in that they simply spend most of their lives wagging, smiling, living in the moment, and giving what they can to please us humans at any given moment… even when the going gets tough.

I plan to take my dogs tomorrow to drop off dog food and toys at the local shelter, pick up any piles that have been left on our local trail by others, and go walking with a friend who has a difficult time getting out on her own…. and she loves the wag of the dogs’ tails.

What are your plans?  Practice the unconditional loyalty your dog knows so well every day.  Retweet this article and give a paws up to the world around you in the comment section with your idea of Pay “Paw” It Forward.

  1. I focus on Paying Forward everyday, and I’m glad there is a day that reminds us that sometimes it’s a matter of giving first.

As for my dog, well… I might actually share my meatloaf tonight.

  3. I always had a “pet day” once a week or so. In addition to our normal activities every day, this day was spent doing things in celebration of my pet–taking my dog out on his favorite hike or to see one of his dog pals.

My model has always been to help–free dog social classes, dog club, and tasks I am happy to do when most people have to be asked.

Just did a video for my pal’s Amazon BreakThrough Novel–if you want to pay that forward try: https://www.guerreroink.com/nubianprincess/ or head to amazon.com and search for Nubian Princess–free to download with Kindle for PC (free also) and to vote just log-in and leave a review.

  4. Thank you for the reminder. It is true we should do good things everyday. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our daily life it is easy to forget. Even though our dogs often remind us.
Tomorrow my girsl and I will go and visit an old friend that is going for surgery. She loves the dogs and it always make her happy.

  5. Great post! I am just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to discover how to do it well – resources like this article are incredibly helpful. The example above is something that I be concerned about as well, how to show your own genuine enthusiasm and write about the truth that your item is useful in that case.
