The Difference Between Friends and Dogs

So why do you have a dog?

Dog owners answer that question every day when asked,

“What kind of dog is that?”

“How old is your dog?”  …answers come out automatically:

“He’s my buddy.”

“She’ll hang out with me when no one else will.”

“She goes everywhere with me.”

Ya know, he’s got his problems but he’s such a good boy most of the time….

Personally I like this one.  I mean after all, don’t we all have our problems?  But we are good most of the time.  Your dog does reflect your behavior and for the most part it’s really a great thing.

I get asked the question all the time and the answer is wide and sometimes deep, sometimes shallow.  But yesterday I read a quote that stated it so well.

“The difference between friends and pets is that friends we allow into our company, pets we allow into our solitude.”  Robert Brault

Wow.  That was good.

Now.  Go out and move with your dog.  Fit Dog Fit Nation is May 2, 2010

  1. I think that most people let animals into their inner sanctuary–that place that is guarded from most people with few exceptions–that deep emotional connection can transform lives or help a person to grow.

It is quite an amazing process to see how people open up when animals are around or involved.

  2. We must love our dogs, because we allow them to do stuff that we would never put up with from our friends. If your friend accidently peed on your rug or begged at the dinner table or ruined your shoes, would you cut them loose? I think that one of the differences between friends and dogs. Frankly, I like dogs better than most people — they’re more loyal and they are usually happier to see me. 🙂 Dogs rule!
